July 15, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – Tyre company Michelin has launched 4 new motorcycle tyre products – Michelin Power 5, Michelin Power GP, Michelin Power Cup 2, and Michelin Power Slick 2.
The launch marks the renewal of Michelin’s entire hypersport and race offering that brings consistency and complementarity to the ‘Michelin Power’ range.
“Since Michelin’s return as the official sole tyre supplier for MotoGP in 2016, the company has continued to use the technical advancements developed for fitting the world’s most exclusive and premier motorcycle racing championship, to advance the performance of tyres sold to riders around the world. This latest launch of our 4 newest hypersport and race tyres is a clear manifestation of such an endeavor.
“All 4 new products are targeted at speed lovers, which serve as a core segment of our two-wheel customers. The Michelin Power 5 and Michelin Power GP are road-oriented, using an innovative robber compound that incorporates silica and carbon black. Michelin Power 5, a 100 percent road tyre was developed for maximum enjoyment in the dry and safety in the wet, with a tread void ratio of 11 percent. It is proven to deliver the best performance in the wet, compared to its main competitors (According to internal tests conducted at Issoire Track (Dry Performance Tests) and Fontange Track (Wet Performance Tests), in July and October 2019).
As for the Michelin Power GP, a 50 percent road, 50 percent track tyre, was proven to provide the best performance in both dry and wet conditions, compared to its main competitors (According to internal tests conducted at Issoire Track (Dry Performance Tests) and Fontange Track (Wet Performance Tests), in July and October 2019). It features a tread sculpture built for both road and track usage, slick shoulder areas for exceptional grip and stability on track and a tread void ratio of 6.5 percent.
Meanwhile, the Michelin Power Cup 2, and Michelin Power Slick 2 are track-oriented. The Michelin Power Cup 2 is a 10 percent, 90 percent track tyre – the treaded version of the road-legal track tyre.
Concurrently, the Michelin Power Slick 2 is a 100 percent track tyre that specifically targeted at trackday enthusiasts, offering rapid warm-up times. Both tyre models are proven to provide the best lap-time and long run performance (According to internal tests carried out versus main competitors at Cartagena Track, Spain, in June 2019), offering the fastest lap times both over a single lap and over full race distances.
All the 4 newly launched products not only share common technologies from track to road, – in terms of the ACT+ tyre architecture, 2CT+ dual compound treads and computer-optimised tread designs but also features the unique sidewall branding signature of Michelin’s patented ‘Premium Touch Technology’ that creates an esthetic contrast and shades of black with a velvet effect.
“Each of the newly launched tyres has its own specific performance characteristics through the use of high technology materials and casing design. A unique architecture, as well as a clever balance between flexibility and rigidity, offer high performance regardless of the lean angle taken by the rider and his motorcycle,” said Shields.
