June 9, 2020, Kuala Lumpur – Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, has announced that the Mitsubishi Triton successfully captured 28 percent of market share in the pick-up truck segment during the company’s fiscal year to date 2020.
The company’s financial year 2020 calendar starts from April 2020 to March 2021. For the month of May 2020, the pick-up truck segment dropped by 45 percent, mainly due to the challenging economic situation.
In spite of that, the Mitsubishi Triton was the only vehicle that successfully achieved a positive growth of 1 percent, with 483 units sold for May 2020, compared to the same period last fiscal year.
The Mitsubishi Triton consistently maintained its market share of 22 percent or more for five consecutive months, from January to May 2020, an increase from the same corresponding period in 2019, at 17.8 percent.
“While the automotive industry is still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, we are happy that the Mitsubishi Triton retained its popularity with a strong market share of 28 percent for the financial year to date 2020.
“We are glad that the Triton comes in as a reliable and helpful utility truck to assist our customers to get through these tough times,” said its chief executive officer Tomoyuki Shinnishi in a statement.
