Maybach is the luxury arm of Mercedes-Benz, that creates the ultra-luxury version of the latter’s vehicle.
The writer spent a few of days with the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 and it brings luxury to a whole new level.
Its hard to illustrate how luxurious the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 is. The details, finishing, and material used in the Maybach, are from the highest-grade to further enhance the luxury of the S-Class.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 in August, 2018. It is powered by a 4.0-litre turbocharge V8 engine paired with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. It generates 469 hp and 700 Nm of torque. It is capable to exceed legal speed limits with ease and the quick reaction nine-speed automatic transmission switches gears smoothly.
The German luxury car manufacture claims that the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 can dash to 100kph in 4.9 seconds and the top speed is electronically-limited to 250kph.
Standing at a length of 5,125mm, a width of 1,930mm, a height of 1,496mm and a wheelbase of 3,365mm. It has a 500 litres of boot space and 80 litres of fuel tank space.
With a length of 5,125mm, it is unquestionably that the Maybach S 560 has ample legroom, legroom and shoulder room. The 12-way powered adjustable rear seats with power-operated leg rest will assure the most comfortable sitting position for its rear occupants and It has massage function as well.
Compared to the standard S-Class, the Maybach S 560 is equipped with two 12-way adjustable individual seats, a more elegant designed grille, bumpers, the ‘Stardust’ tail lights, 20-inch multispoke alloy wheels, chrome window surrounds, Maybach badge on the C-pillars, nappa leather upholstery, IWC anologue clock, dual-panel panoramic sunroof with Magic Sky Control, mini-fridge, cup holders with hot and cold functions, two airplane business class’ seat-style foldable tables and 27-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system.
The 27-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system plays clear and precise treble, supported with solid and powerful bass. The infotainment system is easy to operate and can be easily adjusted with the COMAND controls.
To further compliment the comfort, the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 features the Magic Body Control system. It works in tandem with the Road Surface Scan technology, that detects the road’s unevenness with the stereo camera in the windscreen, and the system will set up the active suspension with the continuously adjustable dampers accordingly to provide a more smooth and comfortable ride quality.
The air suspensions helps to balance the comfort by absorbing those challenging road conditions and it helps to keep the car stable during corners. If the Magic Body Control system managed to detect the road linings and road bumps, the air suspension level the bumps as if it wasn’t there.
At the same time, Mercedes-Maybach has claimed the Maybach S 560 has the most quiet cabin. True enough, we couldn’t hear any wind sound nor tyre sound, throughout our time with the unit. We could only hear a little engine sound when we were pushing it to its limits, at very high revs.
It’s equipment list includes the adaptive LED projectors with high beam assist, LED daytime running lights, powered rear sun shades and window shades, powered boot with contactless opening, paddle shifters, three-spoke multi-function steering, dual 12.3-inch display panels, quad centre air vents, COMAND controls, dual USB ports, wireless charging tray, power closing doors, multi-zone ambient lighting, air balance package and dual 10.2-inch screens with wireless headphones for the rear passengers.

The writer drove the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 for over 650km. It recorded 13.7 litres per 100km (l/100km) after a mixture of city and highway driving. A cruise on the highway below legal speed limit resulted to 10.1 to 11.8l/100km. After some full throttle driving, it showed that it used about 14.5 to 16.8 l/100km, not bad, given that the car is running on a 4.0-litre V8 turbocharged engine and it weighs over two tonnes.
It doesn’t matter whether one is behind the wheel, or being chauffeured, the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 will surely pampered its occupants with comfort. We only felt that the lane keeping assist has the tendency to adjust the car back into the lane quite aggressively that gives a shock to its occupants, when the system detects the car is near the side road lines.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 560 is priced at RM1.4 million, before tax and other accessories options.
