Proton Sales Increased By 100% In November

December 3, 2019, Subang Jaya – Proton Holdings Bhd, the second largest national carmaker, has doubled it sales in November 2019, with 9,643 units sold, from 4,820 units sold November last year.

The growth is mainly contributed by the sales of its A-segment sedans and the Proton X70 sports utility vehicle (SUV). The cumulative volume for the year stands at 89,476 units, 50.1 percent increase from 59,146 units, same period last year.

For a third consecutive month, the Proton Saga’s sales broke the 4,000 units barrier as 4,091 units were delivered in November. This allowed the Proton Saga to retake the top of the a segment sedan sales table with 34,422 sold in 2019 with a growth by 32 percent.

“The Saga has been a big success for Proton since its launch in August. In just four months, we already achieved more than 35,000 bookings and currently, every unit our factory can deliver has been spoken for. Our challenge therefore is to increase our production capacity for the Saga and we have had intensive discussion with our vendors to work towards a volume increase next year,” said its chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong in a statement.

At the same time, the Saga also caught the attention of buyers by its performance in the recent Sepang 1000km (S1K) race. Team Proton R3 (R3) brought its three-car team home in first, second and seventh position with two of the racing cars being the 2019 Proton Saga.

“Just finishing the S1K is already a tough proposition because the race requires a combination of consistent speed and reliability. Proton’s R3 division did a great job in preparing the cars and their performance is proof that the Proton Saga has all the qualities required to be a competitor in Malaysia’s premier racing event. What we learn on track is shared with our designers and engineers so our customers can also benefit from our motorsports success,” Li said.

Proton X70 sales improve as first anniversary approaches December 12, 2018, has been etched in Proton’s history books as the date when the company officially began its transformation to being a premium mass market brand. The launch of the Proton X70 gave the company its first SUV and as the first anniversary of its market introduction looms, the popularity of the premium and executive SUV segment leader shows no signs of abating.

“The Proton X70 has been our biggest success story for 2019. It enabled Proton to enter a snew segment with zero market experience and a year later, we have emerged as the undisputed sales leader. As the first anniversary of its market introduction approaches, sales have picked up in volume and in November more than 2,000 units were sold. The uptrend shows customers are still keenly interested in the most intelligent SUV on sale and we target to grow that interest in the coming year,” said Li.

As the new plant extension in Tanjung Malim approaches commencement of production activities, Proton’s engineers have pledged to deliver products that match or are better in quality than vehicles produced by other members of the Geely Auto group of automotive brands.

“Proton has been tasked to be one of the centres of right hand drive production for the group so for this to happen, our production quality must match the level achieved by the other group members. This is a very tough goal to achieve but I am confident the company has the necessary engineers and production line workers who are determined to prove Malaysian built vehicles are comparable to rivals globally,” Li said.
